Micron has ambitious plans for Japan and plans to invest up to ¥500 billion in its business in the country in the coming years. In particular, the company aims to offer advanced machines for EUV, a key component of modern semiconductor manufacturing. It’s the first chipmaker in Japan to do so. Mass production of the next generation dynamic random access memory chips is planned to start in 2026.
Japan not only supports Micron: significant subsidies are also allocated to the TSMC plant in Kumamoto Prefecture and domestic chipmaker Kioxia. Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura emphasized the importance of strategic investments in regions where demand increases.
