As an alternative to the digital ruble, which is being launched by the Bank of Russia, former State Duma deputy Robert Schlegel, who lives in Germany, created his own cryptoruble. CRR is a cryptocurrency token on the Ethereum blockchain. The former parliamentarian spoke about it on his social network page.

Russians were offered a cryptoruble, an alternative to the digital ruble

As of August 1, 2023, Russian legislation allows payments to be made in digital rubles, which are fully controlled by the Central Bank. The digital ruble represents the third form of Russian currency. They plan to make the digital ruble accessible to ordinary Russians by the period 2025-2027.

Robert Schlegel, for his part, points out that the Central Bank launched the digital ruble “to make it the only official cryptocurrency.” In this sense, the former deputy decided to create an alternative: “Free Russia Cryptoruble (CRR)”.

The first limited issuance of tokens is a multiple of the approximate number of citizens in Russia – 145 million crypto rubles. Proceeds from the token sale will be used to help political prisoners and resettlers who left after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict, according to the project website.

The instructions for purchasing cryptocurrency specify that to purchase you need to have an Ethereum wallet, which can be created through the Metamask app or browser extensions. The price of one token is 1 ruble.

Robert Schlegel is a former State Duma deputy from the United Russia party and a former commissar of the Nashi movement, created by the presidential administration. The former parliamentarian is co-author of the so-called Dima Yakovlev law.

RB.RU organizes a project meeting Founders Monday for beginners and experienced entrepreneurs. Twice a month on Mondays.

In 2019, Schlegel left Russia and moved to Germany as an ethnic German. After his departure, he maintained that he had no plans to enter politics.
