Scientists from NUST MISIS have developed and patented a new material for biodegradable bone implants, which can solve the problem of damage to bone tissue and replace traditional implants that cause negative consequences in the long term.

Bioabsorbable implants will help avoid repeated operations to remove foreign substances from the body. Current materials based on magnesium or zinc have the disadvantage of a very high rate of biodegradation, which can damage the integrity of the implant before the bone tissue restoration is completed.

The scientists used an iron alloy with manganese and silicon; This made it possible to create a material with excellent mechanical properties and biodegradability, promoting tissue healing and regeneration. This new material represents an important step in the development of medicine and traumatology, and scientists are planning its industrial production for further use for medical purposes.
