Target has updated its Account Center with a new feature that will allow disable Instagram tracking. Users who have a profile on a social network can prevent it from collecting data about our activity on the Internet and in other applications. At the same time, the technology giant will stop showing personalized ads in the feed.
The company published a blog post detailing the changes coming to the Account Center. There is a very peculiar item on the list that has become a point of contention among those who fight for the privacy of our data. Meta introduced the option “Your activities outside of metatechnologies”, which allows manage Instagram subscriptions.
“Your activity outside of Meta includes information that companies and organizations share with us about your interactions with them, such as visits to their apps or websites,” he mentions. The new feature provides access to your latest activity, options to disable or handle future follow-upsas well as the ability to completely delete data.

In recent months, the technology company has offered controls for changing the ads that appear in your apps. The problem is that most of them are hidden or hard to access, preventing you from changing them.
Meta uses a small piece of code known as Meta pixel, which is present on almost every website you visit. Role of the pixel collect information about your activity that is associated with an ID to show you targeted advertising.
When a meta pixel is set up, it records every action on your website, such as adding an item to cart or making a purchase. The pixel collects all these actions, called events, and sends them to the event manager so you can view them. This tool shows the actions your customers perform. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to retarget these customers with future Facebook ads.

The company also spies on your behavior on other apps, which explains why you see so many ads from Amazon, Netflix and other services in your News Feed.
Meta will stop following you on Instagram, but you will still see ads.
Although Meta is taking a step in the right direction, Turning off tracking doesn’t mean you won’t see ads on Instagram.. Advertising revenue keeps Mark Zuckerberg and company afloat, so you won’t be getting rid of it anytime soon.
This function runs like this: response to millionaire sanctions against the company for forcing its users to accept personalized advertising. Earlier this year, the Irish Data Protection Commission fined Meta €390 million for violating the GDPR. The tech company included tracking consent in Facebook’s terms, so everyone accepted it by default.

The changes announced today include more than just the ability for Instagram to unfollow us. Meta Account Center now allows us to download all our data into one file, as well as transfer our photos and videos to other services. Regarding the latter, Robert d’Apice, Meta’s director of product management, said this is a big step forward in data portability.
Meta did not specify which services we would be able to transfer our image library to, only mentioning an example of simple photo album printing.
