During the international archaeological expedition “Great Altai – Turkish Heritage: Sentelek-2023”, 8th-9th centuries in the Altai Region. The funeral of a centuries-old nomad was discovered. Excavations were carried out in the Çariş region next to the “Çar Mound” from the Scythian period. This year archaeologists examined three mounds; One of them contained the graves of a man and a horse. Pieces of horse equipment, iron stirrups and bridle decorations were found in this grave. A weapon, the purpose of which has not yet been determined, was also found.

It is worth noting that the excavation site is a huge complex containing about 100 mounds, most of which are hidden due to agricultural activities. An important task of archaeologists is to protect this region and remove it from economic use. Work to determine the boundaries of the monument is ongoing and an application is being made to regional authorities to support the initiative.
