The number of fake online stores that are lowering prices for the iPhone 16 has increased 30 times in Russia since the beginning of September.
From September 1 to September 8, BI.ZONE Brand Protection identified 7 questionable domains, and in the week following Apple’s presentation, their number increased to 170, and by September 19, there were 197.
They all contain the word iphone in the domain, most of them are registered anonymously.
According to Kaspersky Lab experts, this year there is a very common scheme with pre-ordering the iPhone 16 with a discount of almost 40%. The iPhone 16 Pro Max can be purchased for $499, while in reality it costs $1,199. After the purchase, a fake invoice appeared, which even shows taxes.
Another category of queens called “workers” appeared relatively recently. These people are engaged in attracting traffic using the “Mammoth” scheme: using fake offers to sell iPhone 16 on free classifieds boards and in posts on social networks, they look for real victims, including using a reduced price for the product. The next task of the scammers is to lead a person of the greasy lung service to the messenger to obtain additional data via a phishing link.
