Roscosmos State Corporation has been contracted to develop a system that will allow mobile devices to connect to the network via satellites, even if there is no cellular infrastructure. This system, known as direct-to-cell (“direct-to-cell”), is currently under design at the TsNIIMash research institute.
This technology will enable communication via satellites and make it possible to send text messages even if you are in remote locations without cellular coverage. SpaceX and T-Mobile are also working on a similar project and plan to launch it in 2024. Initially, the system will provide the ability to send messages and, from 2025, to make calls. This will give people more opportunities to connect in remote areas.
