The new product is expected to go on sale in 2024. The company also plans to launch a new version of the AirPods Max headphones.
According to insiders, AirPods 4th generation will have two models: one with ANC functionality and support for the Find My app for the charging case, and the other is a more budget option without these features.
Both models will feature a new design and a USB-C port in place of the current Lightning, but will likely lack replaceable silicone tips, which could limit the effectiveness of ANC.
According to preliminary information, the prices of the new models will be approximately the same as AirPods 2 ($ 129) and AirPods 3 ($ 179).
With the addition of ANC, the AirPods 4 will become a more serious rival to the AirPods Pro 2 ($249), although an update to the latter is also planned, but not anytime soon.
“Meanwhile, AirPods Pro are expected to get a new design and chip in 2025, and the company is working on the hearing-related health features of the device,” the insider said.
