In Russia, the number of economic disputes in court increased by 16% compared to last year. At the same time, the number of debtor legal entities has decreased by a third, according to analyzes by the Kontur.Focus service, whose data is provided by RBC. Compared to 2020, the number of trials increased by 77%.

Throughout the year, the number of litigation in Russian companies increased and the number of debtor companies decreased

As of September 1, 2023, more than 538 thousand disputes were considered by Russian arbitration courts. This is 16% more than in the same period in 2022. And compared to 2020, their number increased by 77%.

At the same time, the number of enforcement procedures was reduced by a third (up to 905 thousand) and the number of debtor companies (up to 233 thousand).

The company’s experts attribute the increase in the number of litigation to the anti-crisis measures of the Russian authorities, in particular, a moratorium on bankruptcies, as well as a system of deferrals in the payment of debts to the Federal Tax Service.

Another reason could be the company’s desire not to be forced to collect debts from bailiffs.

Most of the cases in arbitration are located in Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Sverdlovsk region. The smallest number is found in the Chukotka and Nenets Autonomous Okrugs. The Jewish Autonomous Region, the Altai Territory and the Magadan Region are also considered “quiet.”

Most often, disputes arise between representatives of the real estate and property management sectors (100 thousand cases as of September 1). There are also disputes in the construction, freight transport, restaurant and retail sectors.
