The Central Bank has calculated the number of Russians who have three or more outstanding loans: in July this year, their number amounted to 11.2 million people. About 6% of borrowers take out a loan to make a down payment on a mortgage, the regulator said.

11.2 million Russians are saddled with three or more loans. During the year, their number increased by 2.2 million people, the Central Bank reported, citing data from the credit history bureau.

According to the Central Bank, 10 million Russians have obligations under two loans and 21.3 million Russians have obligations under one loan. According to the Bank of Russia report, the total number of borrowers of banks and microfinance organizations this year increased by 2.3 million to 46.7 million people.

Mortgages are “pending” for 10 million bank customers, while one in two mortgage loans in 2023 was issued for a term of more than 25 years. About 6% of borrowers took out a loan to pay a down payment on a mortgage, the Central Bank suggested.
