Airbus is based in Alabama, and aircraft components are delivered by cargo ships from France to factories in the United States; Airbus has three of them. To solve the problems of economy and environmental friendliness, Airbus will order and lease futuristic electric ships “from the future” from French contractor Louis Dreyfus Armateurs.

It is planned to produce three electric cargo ships with six Flettner rotors each: the so-called. Sail masts are rotating cylindrical masts that replace sails and use wind to create thrust.

In addition, the ships will be equipped with both diesel engines and engines that run on “electromethanol” obtained from carbon dioxide. With the help of special software, routes will be determined taking into account optimum wind and currents.

Airbus needs such solutions to reduce delivery costs of components for A320 passenger aircraft production. All ships will be able to deliver 70 12-metre sea containers with a maximum weight of 30 tonnes each, as well as six single-aisle aircraft subassemblies.
