Apple introduced a new generation of its M3 chip family and showed new devices based on them. The presentation took place within the framework of Scary Fast.
The event took place on October 30, coinciding with Halloween. The main events of Apple’s presentation were the new 3-nanometer M3 processors and the MacBook Pro laptops and the iMAC all-in-one PC based on them.
M3
The company positions the new processors as a big step forward compared to the M1 family of chips. At the presentation of the new product it was stated that the graphics processors of the M3 are 1.8 times faster than those of the M2, and compared to those of the M1 they are 2.5 times faster.
M3 systems now have a dynamic caching option. Allows you to allocate the amount of memory required to optimize the processor for a specific task.
The base M3 chip has a processor with four performance cores and four efficiency cores, as well as a 10-core GPU (graphics processing unit). The system can support up to 24 GB of RAM.
Apple also introduced the M3 Pro, which already consists of six performance and six processing cores, as well as a 16-core graphics processor. It is capable of supporting 36 GB of unified memory.
The M3 Max system has 12 productive and four economical cores. The graphics part has 40 cores and the capacity to support up to 128 GB of RAM. This chip is 80% faster than the M1 Max, Apple claims.
MacBook Pro with M3 chip
The base model of the new family is the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the “junior” M3 processor. There is also a MacBook Pro line based on the M3 Max
All models feature a Liquid Retina XDR display, which is 20% brighter than the previous version. The device also features a 1080p FaceTime camera.
The laptops received a new body color (Space Black) and a special coating, thanks to which fingerprints will not be visible on the device.
Laptops now support Ray Tracing and Mesh Shading for the first time thanks to new processors. The new chips also made it possible to speed up image processing by 40% to 60%, depending on the type.
iMac M3 24-inch all-in-one
The new chip doubled the speed of the device compared to the previous iMac with M1. And compared to Intel-based iMac devices, the increase is estimated to be 2.5 times.
The device will be available in seven colors and will come with a keyboard, mouse and trackpad.
Last month, Apple introduced the new generation of Apple Watch and iPhone 15.
