The summit will take place this Wednesday, AI regulation in Bletchley Park, England, where a group of Chinese scientists called for artificial intelligence to be stopped right now because “it existential risk for a person.”
The group, which includes Andrew Yao, one of China’s most prominent computer scientists, calls for the creation of an international regulator, mandatory registration and auditing of advanced artificial intelligence systems, inclusion of instant “switch-off” procedures and for developers to spend 30 percent of their AI safety research budget.
The scientists behind the joint statement, which was also signed by Western experts such as Yoshua Bengio of the University of Montreal, met in October at the Ditchley Park country house near Oxford, the Financial Times notes.

“Learning lessons from the fight against environmental harm, we must work together as a global community to ensure the safe development of AI,” said Yao, one of the declaration’s organizers.
Ya-Qin Zhang, dean of Tsinghua University and former president of tech giant Baidu, said it is necessary to ensure that future artificial general intelligence is “safe and reliable.”
In a speech in London this Wednesday, November 1, US Vice President Kamala Harris will argue that while “AI has the potential to do great good, it can also cause profound harm. a scale beyond anything we have seen before in AI-powered biological weapons that could endanger the lives of millions of people.”
