Turkish authorities have passed a law that makes it difficult for landlords to rent out their properties. They must now obtain special permission for these purposes. The document was published in the government publication Resmi Gazete.
We are talking about cases in which the home is rented for tourist purposes. Before entering into a contract, the tenant must obtain permission to do so. And houses rented to tourists must now have special signs installed.
The lease contract will be approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as the governor’s office. However, the new rules do not apply to long-term rentals of more than 100 days.
Those who violate the law will receive a fine of 100,000 lire. (about 330 thousand rubles). A fine will be imposed on each object for which a permit has not been obtained.
If after the first fine the tenant does not correct the violation, the next one increases to 500 thousand – 1 million lire. (1.65-3.3 million rubles).
Earlier this fall, Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Ali Bahar said the region was facing the problem of “behind-the-scenes tourism.” Visitors buy dozens of apartments and rent them out. Thus, illegal hotels and inns are formed in the country.
Because such rentals were unlicensed, it was impossible to verify ownership. The current situation generated fiscal losses. According to Bahar, the Russians were also involved in similar activities.
Last month, Türkiye tightened its rules for issuing residence permits.
