Specifically, Assassin’s Creed fans will lose access to the Xbox 360 versions of Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood for Mac, and other products across different platforms. Players will not be able to play in multiplayer mode, Ubisoft Connect rewards will not be redeemable, and players will not be able to link their accounts to blocked games. Other network functions will also not be available.
In the official announcement regarding the disabling of outdated games, Ubisoft emphasized that the decision was not easy for the company, but technology does not stand still, games eventually become outdated and the support for these games becomes meaningless. Moreover, it is not the first time that a studio has taken such a step and stopped supporting old games.
“Retiring online services for older games is something we do not take lightly, but it is also a necessity as the technology behind these services becomes obsolete,” Ubisoft said in its announcement.
