Last Thursday, Congress voted to amend the new General Telecommunications Act, which, among other things, establishes an obligation for operators to offer Internet broadband access with a minimum speed of 100 Mbps for 100% of the population. The modification, in particular, includes a new maximum duration for this rule: June 2023.
The law previously set a much longer time limit; in 2025. Operators now they will have one year to offer affordable internet offerings at 100Mb speed somewhere in Spain. While this may seem like a bit of a hasty move and may leave companies no room to adapt their infrastructure, especially in areas with smaller populations, the amendment was assured bandaancha.eu, it does not specify which technologies operators should use. At the moment, according to Congress, broadband coverage in Spain reaches 95.2% of the population with speeds up to 30 Mbps, while Coverage of 100 Mb is present on 87.6% of the territory.
