Moscow’s Tagansky Court detained blogger and business advisor Ayaz Shabutdinov until December 16 in a large-scale fraud case. The investigation insisted on this preventive measure.

Blogger and businessman Ayaz Shabutdinov was arrested

“The court granted the investigation’s request and chose detention until December 16 as a preventive measure against Shabutdinov,” the judge said, according to TASS.

According to the Moscow prosecutor’s office, the defendant’s defense insisted on bail of 4.1 million rubles or house arrest. However, the court considered that the accused, being a fugitive, could escape:

“Thus, it was established that the man has a passport as a citizen of a foreign country and valid visas for other countries.”

The business advisor was charged with eight crimes under the article on large-scale fraud committed by an organized group. Shabutdinov did not admit his guilt.

During the meeting, the blogger’s lawyer, Nikita Apalikov, noted that the investigation estimated the total damage from his client’s actions at 4 million rubles, while Shabutdinov’s total income for 2022 exceeded 300 million rubles.

“Therefore, the amount of damage seems too insignificant to choose a preventive measure in the form of arrest,” Apalikov considered.
