Working in partnership with Silicon Valley-based company Inworld AI, Microsoft plans to inject artificial intelligence into non-player characters (NPCs), making them more realistic and intelligent.

Traditionally, NPCs in games repeat pre-recorded phrases, which sometimes disrupts immersion in the game world.

But Redmond’s latest effort aims to create characters that can behave more naturally and offer more organic interactions, such as sending players on exciting missions.

Inworld AI, valued at more than half a billion dollars after its last funding round, aims to integrate its developments into future Xbox games. This opens new horizons for developers of all sizes around the world.
