Nike is suing New Balance and Skechers for using Nike’s patented Flyknit technology in the uppers of their shoes. The lawsuit claims that competitors used technology in their production that allows Nike “to create shoes with superior performance, design and aesthetics, while reducing the amount of materials and waste,” Reuters writes.
Previously, the company filed the same lawsuits against Adidas, Puma and Lululemon for patent infringement of Flyknit technology. In response, Adidas countersued, alleging that Nike’s Adapt shoe-fitting technology, Run Club and Training Club training apps, and limited-edition shoe app SNKRS infringed its patents.
Adidas and Puma later settled their lawsuits, but the Nike v. Lululemon hasn’t decided yet.
In May 2022, Nike decided to finally leave the Russian market. The retailer did not renew the contract with the brand’s largest franchisee in Russia, Inventive Retail Group (IRG). Additionally, a Nike representative said the company decided not to renew existing business relationships or enter into new business relationships “due to operational difficulties.”
