Employees of Sberbank and Yandex were summoned to the prosecutor’s office due to the results of the work of their generative neural networks, said Sberbank President German Gref. Sber specialists became interested in law enforcement in connection with the image of the Russian flag generated by the technology company’s artificial intelligence.
According to Gref, as soon as Sber and Yandex published their models, representatives of both companies were summoned to the prosecutor’s office. In the Sber case, claims arose about the image of the Russian flag coming from Kandinsky’s neural network. He added the domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral to the national flag, and the deputies considered this a “mockery.”
Now Sberbank’s neural network does not generate any status symbols, but rather produces a pre-specified image, Gref explained.
Speaking on the forum FinópolisGref complained about the decline in model creativity due to changes that had to be made to the technology due to security configuration requirements. The president of the State Bank asked the Russian authorities for “leniency and understanding” in matters of regulation of the field of artificial intelligence.
“At the same time, the publicly available model lost 12% in creativity and accuracy. We will have to go through this period. We need the help of the State in terms of leniency and understanding that we are like children here for now: we should not be judged too much. Because when the developers and we were invited to the prosecutor’s office … It’s good that the prosecutor was so modern, with a sense of humor, he studied everything and, thank God, we were not attracted to any part. He said: guys, let’s go to work, but be careful. It could have been different,” Gref said.
At the same time, he drew attention to the experience of China and the United States in AI regulation. On the contrary, it is better not to use the stricter approach of the European Union, says Gref.
In April, the leader of the “A Just Russia – For Truth” faction, Sergei Mironov, was outraged by the lack of patriotism generated by Kandinsky 2.1. images. The deputy asked the Prosecutor General to check that Sberbank’s activities comply with the laws.
