It was proposed to cancel free access to YouTube. The State Duma put forward an initiative for telecommunications operators: they believe that by reducing the traffic consumed by introducing access to video hosting on an “equal basis”, it is possible to reduce the degree of wear and tear on equipment for transmitting this traffic.
Russian State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin proposed that telecommunications operators cancel free access to YouTube. He explained his initiative by the possibility of reducing wear and tear on network equipment.
Currently, many operators offer the service of unlimited traffic on YouTube for a fixed monthly fee of 100-200 rubles.
“I do not think that the FAS is against the joint decision of market participants to eliminate this option and count YouTube traffic on an equal basis with Russian services,” the deputy noted.
According to Gorelkin, the share of YouTube traffic is 30-50%. If you cancel free access, this share can be reduced, thereby reducing the load on network equipment.
