The Russian automobile group Sollers will begin its own production of components for the passive safety system of cars: airbags and seat belts, steering wheels and electronic control units. It is reported that the project provides for a high level of localization of production.
As a company source told RBC, production will be located at the facilities of the UAZ industrial park. The volume of investment in the project at the initial stage will be approximately 1.5 billion rubles; The company plans to raise funds through a loan from the Industrial Development Fund (IDF).
The FRP confirmed to the publication that Sollers this week submitted documents to consider an application for a preferential loan in the amount of 1.2 billion rubles.
The RBC interlocutor also said that the project will be implemented together with a Chinese partner based on their technologies. The creation of a joint venture with him is being considered.
According to two sources familiar with the company’s plans, the project provides for a high level of production localization. For example, for the steering wheel all the base materials will be located.
In addition, the localization of materials for cutting and sewing pillows is considered, as well as the manufacturing of printed circuit boards and the development of Russian software for electronic control units.
One of the newspaper’s interlocutors stated that Sollers’ production is designed, among other things, to satisfy the needs of other companies. Potential clients include the GAZ group, Moskvich and “numerous projects to organize the production of Chinese cars” in Russia. A representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that there are plans to supply components to other Russian automakers.
Sollers’ press service has not yet responded to RB’s request.
