Players using these devices began receiving “shadowbans”, hidden blocks that limited their gaming abilities.

The problem is related to the Ricochet anti-cheat system used in Call of Duty: MW3. This system is designed to combat unfair gaming, particularly through the use of Aim and other types of cheating.

However, Ricochet was found to respond incorrectly to some features of handheld consoles, such as TDP (Thermal Design Power) settings and interaction with Asus’ Armory Crate software.

Shadow banned players can play Warzone as well as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3, but they are directed to a separate pool of other banned players and cheaters.

Such a blockade can take up to three days to complete and can be permanent and extremely difficult to challenge.
