The Qiwi Uzbekistan application will stop working on December 18. For residents of Uzbekistan, the usual functions of the service will be available in a single Qiwi application. The company announced this on its website.
Previously, Qiwi Uzbekistan suspended international transfers, including to the Russian Federation, at the request of the local Central Bank.
To continue using the service in the republic, you will need to open an account in the Qiwi unified wallet application. This can be done in rubles or tenge, to register you need to have an Uzbek phone number.
Starting November 16, the company will write off a commission for storing money from the wallet balance, which will amount to 7.5 thousand Uzbek soms (a little more than $6) per day.
“This is necessary because the QIWI Uzbekistan application is closing and we cannot keep our customers’ money. Please hurry,” the company urged, warning that after December 18 you will have to write a statement to withdraw money.
You can withdraw funds from your Qiwi Uzbekistan wallet to Uzcard and HUMO cards. The company also offers to pay for housing and communal services, mobile communications and others with the remaining money.
Qiwi recalled the reasons for the impossibility of transferring money to a wallet in another country: the local regulator prohibits any international transfers for all payment systems.
At the same time, according to the company, about 90% of customers used the application specifically to pay for services abroad and international transactions. And due to the Central Bank’s measures, the main functionality of the application was limited, the company explains.
In September it became known that Qiwi plc intends to split its business into Russian and international to maintain its listing on the Nasdaq. The exchange granted the company a postponement until November 11, but earlier this month Qiwi again asked the platform to extend the deadline. The new postponement is valid until January 31, 2024.
