More than 60 dedicated private LTE network projects have been implemented in Russia for various industries, 21 of which are commercial networks that have already been built or are in the launch stage. The remaining 40 are pilot projects, according to the ComNews study.
Today, the main players in the private LTE market in Russia are MTS PJSC, Rostelecom PJSC / Tele2 Russia, MegaFon PJSC, VimpelCom PJSC and Russian Railways JSC. In addition, Russian providers (LIS LLC, Advance Mobility Solutions LLC, STC PROTEI LLC, Mobil-group LLC, Trialink Group of Companies) are actively testing Private LTE and Private 5G technologies based on their own solutions without the participation of telecom operators in mechanical engineering. and transport companies (for Russian railways and metropolitan, sea and air transport), the study notes.
Currently, 21 commercial dedicated private LTE network projects have been implemented in Russia, mainly in the gold, iron ore, coal, mining, metallurgy and transportation industries.
The country has also implemented more than 40 LTE/5G-ready private pilot projects, within which various digital and telecommunications solutions were tested for the oil and gas, gas processing, petrochemical, mining and metallurgy, mechanical engineering and energy.
According to the study, MTS is the leader among Russian companies in the total number of dedicated private LTE networks created for various industries. MTS has implemented 34 commercial and pilot projects, representing more than half of the total number of private LTE networks deployed or tested in Russia.
“Four years ago, MTS was one of the first in the country to undertake comprehensive development of a new direction for Russian telecommunications – the creation of dedicated networks. At first these were pilot projects to demonstrate all the advantages of modern infrastructure, then real interest from customers arose in ready-made commercial solutions. Today, private networks are in demand mainly in the extractive, mining and metallurgical industries of Russia, since a reliable and high-speed dedicated network is the basis for automation and ensuring the safety of work in quarries and mines. In the near future, we expect increased interest in dedicated LTE/5G-ready networks as a basis for the digitalization of production in other industrial sectors.””said Oleg Aldoshin, vice president of corporate and new business development at MTS.
As for the other four large operators, PJSC Rostelecom / Tele2 Russia has seven private LTE projects implemented (two commercial and five pilots), PJSC MegaFon has five projects (three commercial and two pilots), VimpelCom PJSC has three pilots.
A dedicated network in LTE/5G standards is designed for the digitization and automation of critical technological and production tasks, integrating various devices and sensors with the company’s IT infrastructure into a single digital ecosystem. Isolation of public commercial communication networks provides greater security, reliability and protection of production and IT processes.
