A flaw discovered by Google security researchers causes affected processors to enter a glitch state, leading to unexpected and potentially serious consequences. In particular, system crashes occur even when untrusted code is executed in the guest account of a virtual machine in cloud environments, posing a threat to cloud hosts.
The bug is related to the way processors manage prefixes, specifically the REX prefix. Although Intel has released microcode updates to resolve this issue, the severity of the issue remains unclear, which may cause it to increase in severity in the future.
