Mikhail Mishustin spoke out against market infrastructure taxes and spoke out in favor of the Russian Post. According to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, these costs will most likely fall on buyers. Previously, the President of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, described the financial situation of the postal operator as a “growing hole.”
The head of the federal government, Mikhail Mishustin, rejected the idea of charging an infrastructure fee to markets to financially support Russian Post. RBC writes about this citing a source from the Ministry of Digital Development, who is familiar with the results of the meeting at which this point was discussed.
The Prime Minister expressed the view that payment of this fee would likely fall on buyers in the markets.
Previously, Russian Post proposed charging marketplaces and other e-commerce market participants a fee of 0.5% of turnover. The money was planned to be used to cover the costs of maintaining unprofitable branches of the postal operator.
Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matvienko described the financial situation of the Russian Post as a “growing hole.” At the end of 2022, the postal operator achieved revenue of 208 billion rubles with a net loss of 27.2 billion rubles.
