According to DSA, large platforms are needed to provide access to data to external researchers conducting public interest research on systemic risks. The updated developer terms now allow EU researchers to access and use the platform’s licensed data specifically for DSA-related research purposes.
This change came about because the EU recognized X as a very large online platform (VLOP) and data access requirements arose.
While Musk has yet to outline a broader agenda for global researchers, the move demonstrates compliance with EU requirements and could ease tensions with the billionaire.
