A day after Sam Altman was fired as CEO of OpenAI, the board of directors is negotiating the return of the top executive. Altman is ready to return, but demands changes in the company’s management structure.

Sam Altman, fired from OpenAI, could return to the CEO position

As The Verge reports, citing well-informed sources, Altman himself is “ambivalent” about his return: he would like significant changes in the company’s management.

Another publication source close to Altman, the company’s board of directors could resign to allow the return of former CEO and Greg Brockman, who served as chairman of OpenAI’s board of directors.

The company fears that most of its employees will follow Altman if he decides to start a new company.

According to the Financial Times, the company’s investors, who were not notified of the decision to fire the CEO, are insisting on Sam Altman’s return to OpenAI.

The largest investor, Microsoft, is discussing possible exit options with Thrive Capital, Tiger Global Management and other investors. One of the measures is also called replacement of the composition of the board of directors.

“[Члены совета директоров] It hurt the company. There is a fiduciary responsibility within the company. The first rule of government is “do no harm.” They caused great damage to the company,” a source involved in the discussion about the future structure of OpenAI’s board of directors explained to the Financial Times.
