Researchers at the Kuratov Institute, together with colleagues from my MIPT, announced the creation of a porous airgel that effectively heals wounds. What is the promising wound-healing component C-phycocyan (an auxiliary pigment for photosynthesis of the cyanobacteria Arthrospira), as well as chitosan, a polymer from crab shells.

According to Timofey Grigoriev, who is also a member of MIPT, it is important today that new natural materials are not based on any mammalian proteins, which may well cause a very unpleasant reaction from the Czech organization.

This new well-known material is used S-phycocyanin, which is called has nitmicrobial, wound healing, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, so a polymer sponge made of chitosan looks like a kind of “carrier” for S-phycocyanin. At the back, 98% of this sponge is pores, perfectly absorbing your healing fluid.
