In November 2022, all 24 McDonald’s restaurants in Kazakhstan suspended operations. Bloomberg wrote that the American chain banned its franchisees from buying meat for cutlets in Russia amid sanctions. In January, the Russian company “Vkusno – period” registered a trademark in Kazakhstan.

In August 2023, Food Solutions KZ, which operates the former McDonald’s restaurants, held a thank-you event for its employees. In August, the establishments’ signs were replaced with “Biz Ashykpyz/We are open” with the real names of the employees: “Men Araymyn”, “Men Aruzhanmyn”, “Men Daniyarmyn”, “Men Yuliamyn” and others.
