Previously Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Leica Camera AG, Dr. Andreas Kaufmann reminded us of this problem. He noted the importance of “an unbroken chain of authenticity from capture to publication” of digital photographs.
In the age of digitalization, trust in visual media is decreasing because it is becoming increasingly easy to fake photographs. This is especially true for privacy, reputation and documentary films.
Sony decided to keep up with Leica in this area and developed a camera that is equipped to authenticate the photo as soon as the shutter button is pressed. The photographs taken will be marked with special “security stickers” to confirm the authenticity of the work.
According to Sony, the image authentication technology will appear in professional-grade cameras starting in early 2024. Field tests have now been completed.
