Superior to its predecessor, the VSS Unity, the Delta requires less maintenance and allows up to two flights per week, making space tourism more affordable. The new device was developed in collaboration with Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences.
Virgin Galactic is aiming for profitability: Each Delta spaceplane will cost $50 million to $60 million and generate a profit of about $2.3 million per suborbital flight. The ambitious program calls for flight tests in 2025 and commercial launches in 2026.
