Frore Systems has developed a custom AirJet cooling system for the MacBook Air.
The AirJet is a thin heatsink that screws onto the MacBook Air’s motherboard and is designed to help dissipate heat.
The company claims it can help a MacBook Air with M2 match the performance of a MacBook Pro with the same processor. The MacBook Pro has always performed tasks faster under a tall display thanks to the desktop fan that cools the processor.
In Cinebench R23, the MacBook Air 15 with M2 and AirJet scored 8,711 points, the same as the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2. The MacBook Air without AirJet scored 8380 points in this test.
After half an hour of playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the standard MacBook Air with M2 ordered 22 FPS, the version with AirJet – 27 FPS. After another 10 games, it began to depend on the regular MacBook Air, but the model with AirJet continued to work.
To install the AirJet, the company had to cut 0.3 mm from the lid of the MacBook Air 15, as well as cut out the side ventilation holes. Otherwise, the radiator would not remain in the case.
Frore Systems has no plans to sell AirJet. The company has designed the heatsink to provide efficient fanless cooling in a compact laptop chassis. [The Verge]
