Google Drive appears to have automatically deleted some users’ files, according to complaints on the cloud storage service’s support page. As highlighted by Android Police this Monday (27th), the problem started to be noticed last week.
In one of the reports, a South Korean user says: As of May this year, all your files stored in Drive are gone, the folder structure returns to its current state. It claims that it does not automatically remove them or share stored data with anyone.
Other similar complaints have also appeared on the site; People were claiming that they no longer had access to important files saved in the cloud and they were not in the trash. There are also those can only view folders and subfolders while files keep mysteriously disappearing.
A Google Drive support representative responding to one of the reports confirmed the existence of the problem and confirmed that the automatic removal of data affected more people. Without providing further details, the spokesperson said Google was investigating the flaw.
So what to do now?
If you are one of the users affected by the deletion of files on Google Drive, here is what big tech recommends: Do not try to perform the restoration yourself, avoiding making changes to the root folder of the cloud platform.. This may cause more problems.
Google asked everyone to: await instructions from the engineers responsible for the investigation. However, the search giant did not announce any deadline for the definitive solution to the error.
It’s unclear whether the glitch occurred in the web version or the Google Drive app, or if the files disappeared after some sort of procedure was performed.such as syncing folders on devices. Therefore, it may be interesting to check your account on all devices on which it is accessed.
