Deputy Anton Gorelkin reported that the State Duma decided to extend the validity period of the law, during which registration and authorization through foreign services are allowed on Russian websites – until January 1, 2025.

However, there is one more innovation from this law. Russian sites must remove login buttons using Google and Apple ID from December 1, 2023. We do the same thing on iPhones.ru for users from Russia.

The changes we are proposing should help digital platforms balance all legal requirements in a way that does not inconvenience users.

It is important to note that the moratorium only applies to the Russian control clause for permanent authorization. Foreign systems (for example, login buttons using Google and Apple ID) from December 1, Russian sites and applications must be removed.

— Anton Gorelkin

Gorelkin also noted that “there is a mistaken belief that foreign mail will soon be banned… it is necessary to move to Russian services, but the law does not contain requirements for email if it is used as a login.” [RG]
