The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology has developed a “virtual speech therapist.” The application will help eliminate speech defects in both children and adults. The authors of the project told Izvestia about this.

User recordings are converted into spectrograms (display of sound on a graph), which are then cut into frames. The application analyzes pronunciation, then shows possible speech defects and recommendations for correcting them.

Pronunciation is evaluated in almost the same way as diagnosis. However, the final algorithm compares the recording of the user’s speech during the task with the objective result. In the case of the “virtual speech therapist” a special solution has been developed to generate the speaker’s sound without alterations, the authors of the project noted.

  • The ability to present yourself with your voice is a skill that has always been important for work, school, and personal communication. But now, in the age of podcasts, voices and audio conferencing, it periodically becomes almost the only tool in the arsenal. That’s why it’s important to learn how to manage it. Sergei Pekhert, founder of the OneStep dating service, explained to RB.RU how to control timbre and intonation.
