Roskomnadzor drew up 14 protocols on administrative violations in relation to social networks that did not meet the requirements of the law “on self-control.” The department reported this on its website.
The RKN identified a number of violations related to the fact that foreign social networks “do not conscientiously moderate their own sites and do not publish the necessary information in accordance with the law.”
Thus, the RKN developed 14 protocols, based on the results of which the following companies received fines:
- Pinterest – 900 thousand rubles
- Twitch – 900 thousand rubles
- Google – 900 thousand rubles
- TikTok – 750 thousand rubles
- Telegram – 900 thousand rubles
- Like – 800 thousand rubles
Another 8 protocols will be considered in court.
The Self-Control Law came into force on February 1, 2021. On September 1, 2023, amendments came into force that introduce liability to social networks for non-compliance with the requirements of this law.
The document assumes a series of responsibilities for social networks:
— must independently monitor and remove information posted on their sites,
– must have a legally significant form for user requests,
— must publish each year a report on the results of the work carried out.
