The probe’s mission consists of four modules: orbit, descent, ascent and return.
Chang’e-6 successfully landed in the South Pole-Aitken basin on June 2, 2024 at 01:23 Moscow time.
The landing of the probe was carried out using a special satellite with the relay “Queqiao-2”. In the coming days, the probe will check the status of its systems, perform debugging, install solar panels and antennas, and then launch the drilling equipment.
The main purpose of the mission is to collect samples from the far side of the Moon for further research on Earth.
This will be the first time in human history that samples will be collected from the far side of the Moon. Sample collection will take several days and the entire mission will take 53 days.
