Experts said the study aimed to study the rate of crack formation and its impact on the durability of the discs. This work is unique in terms of the domestic alloys used in the production of these parts.

MAI graduate student and leading designer of the Lyulka Design Bureau Dmitry Nemtsev emphasized that due to the high rotation speeds in the engine, the destruction of the disks can lead to serious consequences.

For the research, cylindrical samples with a pre-formed internal defect were used, which helped reduce the cost of research compared to foreign methods.

Experiments allowed experts to determine the dependence of the crack growth rate on internal defects. The press service added that plans for further research include changing the parameters of samples and tests to obtain more accurate data.
