Google, Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia), Qualcomm, Nothing, Lenovo, Opera and a number of other companies have announced developer efforts to promote “open digital ecosystems.”

Other participants include Motorola, Chinese smartphone brand Honor, French augmented reality startup Lynx and German service Wire. However, Apple is not among the organization’s employees. Around the world, the creation of a new coalition called CODE is a deliberate move against the Cupertinos.

The formation of CODE comes in response to the new EU Digital Markets Law, which requires Apple to allow the use of app store restrictions on iOS.

CODE plans to work with companies, legislators and academics to promote “digital openness.” Participants are already discussing how digital ecosystems in Europe should work.
