Russians will be able to buy prescription drugs online using biometrics

This is possible because, according to the law on biometrics, confirmation of identity using EBS data is equivalent to the presentation of a passport, the Ministry of Digital Development informed Izvestia.

The service will increase the digitalization of the pharmaceutical business, increase competition and ultimately lead to a reduction in profit margins on medicines, business associations believe.

In March 2023, an experiment on the remote sale of prescription drugs was launched in Moscow, Moscow and Belgorod regions. Only the delivery of medicines from the Ministry of Health list is allowed.

In March 2023, Sber Eapteka became the first participant in an experiment in online trading of prescription drugs. Roszdravnadzor granted the company the corresponding license. Subsequently, the company planned to launch a service for online sales of medicines in installments. The market aims to fill a currently vacant niche, since on other platforms a similar service is available exclusively for dietary supplements.
