The investigation, launched after Spotify’s complaint, focuses on Apple’s rules, which are accused of restricting rivals and raising prices in music streaming. The decision will be made early next year and could result in fines of up to 10% of Apple’s annual sales.

The European Commission said Apple’s rules forced Spotify to increase subscription prices, which affected users. Apple has made some concessions by allowing apps to direct users to external signup options and allowing lower subscription prices outside of the App Store. However, Spotify claims that these changes are just an appearance.

Apple, which is no stranger to such investigations, has previously been fined by the EU over alleged tax cuts and is currently negotiating a deal over control of tap-to-pay technology.
