Ozon presented “Vozi Ozon”, a new online platform designed to search for cargo transportation orders in Russia and the CIS. The service works like Uber, where orders are placed through the Ozon trading platform and private drivers and transport companies offer their prices. Ozon hopes to reduce commission costs for freight forwarders, addressing a significant increase in the cost of shipping services.

The main motivation for the new service is the desire to reduce dependence on freight forwarders, whose commissions are increasing due to rising freight rates, increased demand and driver shortages. It is stated that the delivery segment to marketplaces has doubled in the same period, and the new service will allow Ozon to increase the number of drivers, reduce commissions and better meet transportation needs.

Experts believe that such platforms are effective for interacting with various transport market participants. It is emphasized that due to increasing rates and the general complexity of the e-commerce market, the new platform will help Ozon attract more drivers and compete successfully with other services.

However, according to the president of the Transport and Logistics Companies Association, the problems in the market include driver shortage and increasing costs. Maintaining balance between marketplaces, consumers and carriers will be key to the successful development of this sector. The demand for freight transportation is increasing, so competition will be intense. Marketplaces will need to ensure competitive conditions, which can lead to an additional increase in company costs and, as a result, an increase in the cost of services to consumers.
