Russian scientists have created an innovative antibacterial coating for implants that can withstand X-ray radiation and fight germs. The essence of the approach is the possibility of local treatment of the surgical site with low-power X-ray radiation in case of possible inflammatory processes after implantation. This innovation is based on a nanostructured material with antibacterial activity as well as a protective coating using iron or platinum nanoparticles.
In recent years, scientists have developed various coatings for implants that speed up the implantation process and prevent the entry of bacteria. However, although rare, cases of inflammation after surgery are also possible. Russian researchers are solving this problem by introducing a coating based on nanostructures that can produce active molecules under the influence of X-ray radiation. This allows the coating to be used not only to protect against bacteria before surgery, but also to combat post-implantation complications by irradiating the part of the patient’s body where the implant is located.
