As climate change wreaks havoc around the world, Rainbow Weather’s mission is clear: “to save lives by providing accurate and timely warnings about severe weather events”—a task that mainstream apps often fail to achieve, according to the media. Vox.com writes that Apple’s weather app is “virtually useless” because it can’t tell the difference between light rain and a heavy rain, the percentages it gives seem “inaccurate” and “you should never trust what it tells you.” When will the rain stop?

Rainbow Weather provides accuracy thanks to artificial intelligence modeling using data from satellites, weather stations, user reports and public barometer data.

The CEO of Rainbow Weather, which recently received $1.5 million in investment including backing from Kolos Ventures and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, says the company was founded during a rainstorm in Sri Lanka.
