Chris Hendon, professor of computational materials chemistry at the University of Oregon and a leading coffee expert, offers some tips for making a good drink.

Buy the right beans. The fresher the coffee, the better the flavor profile. Look for beans that have been roasted no more than 1-4 weeks ago. It’s best to avoid pre-ground coffee.

Get quality equipment. The price of coffee equipment depends on its ability to grind larger beans. A more expensive coffee grinder usually grinds the coffee beans rather than using a blade to break them. But it is better not to use designs with blades, because you will get coffee lumps of different sizes.

change water. Use soft or distilled water to make coffee.

Control temperature, preparation time and amount of coffee/water. These four factors can make a big difference in the taste and strength of your coffee.

Experiment. At the end of the day, delicious coffee is highly subjective.
