Russian operators will test Mikron’s Internet of Things (IoT) SIM cards. Mass production is planned for 2024: first by Zelenograd Mikron, in the future by NM-Tech, Kommersant has learned.
Micron expects a market of “several hundred thousand” cards, while the total park of this type of cards in Russia is 35.5 million units and growing.
According to TelecomDaily, in 2022, MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom and Tele2 supplied 35.5 million SIM cards of this type. This is 20% more than a year before. Experts estimated the volume of the money market at 11 billion rubles.
Experts are confident that demand will be stimulated by government projects, including the use of Russian SIM cards in networks where data security is important.
