A Moscow court imposed a fine of 900,000 rubles on the publishing house Eksmo for a case of LGBT propaganda. The reason was fragments of the comic “Dove Gennady”, published by the company.
“On December 27, 2023, by resolution of the Zelenogradsky District Court of Moscow, the limited liability company EKSMO Publishing House was found guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 1 of Article 6.21 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (propaganda of relationships and (or) non-traditional sexual preferences, sex change)”, says a message from the “Moscow Courts of General Jurisdiction” telegram channel.
The reason for the trial was a comic by the Ukrainian artist Koro. In November, MP Alexander Khinshtein was outraged by the “formation of homosexual attitudes” due to this work. According to the parliamentarian, a process was opened against the publisher.
In early August, Eksmo received 51% of the Popcorn Books publishing house, which specializes in publishing literature in the youth genre. The company then announced its intention to invest in comics development and also promised not to interfere with Popcorn Books’ editorial policy.
Popcorn Books published the novel “Summer in a Pioneer Tie” by Elena Malisova and Katerina Silvanova, which became a bestseller. But the book was withdrawn from sales after the passage of a law banning LGBT propaganda. In addition, at the request of Alexander Khinshtein, a criminal case was opened against the publishing house.
