As users write on the support website, after an update about which there is little information, cellular communication on iPhones suddenly disappeared and connecting to the provider became technically impossible. Different series are mentioned, including the new iPhone 15.

What is known about this update is that it aims to fix fast battery drain issues on iPhone. The bug was confirmed to be fixed, but the iPhone 15 was back to overheating and “terrible thermal issues”.

Regarding the communication error, it is not possible to fix the operator connection error by any standard method and a reboot is of no use. However, various users who encountered the described error suggested some but radical solutions on the support site.

Here are some workarounds that iPhone users mentioned in Apple Support Community Discussions:

  • Network Settings Reset: To do this, go to Settings → General → Transfer or reset iPhone → Reset → Reset network settings.

  • Reset settings to factory defaults: You need to back up your iPhone. You need to follow the instructions above, only instead of choosing “Reset network settings” you will need to delete all data – the most radical way.

  • Delete all VPN profiles: Go to Settings → General → VPN and device management → VPN (click “i” in VPN profiles) → remove VPN.

  • Install iOS 17.3 beta. Since iOS 17.3 beta was distributed before iOS 17.2.1, installing it may fix the connection issue. First, you need to go to beta.apple.com using your Apple ID and password. Then follow Settings → “General” → “Software Update” and you need to click on the “Beta updates” field at the top of the screen. Select iOS 17 Public Beta and get the latest iOS 17.3 public beta to install. However, since betas are often unstable, there is no guarantee of normal operation.
